Going into 2020 | Brooke Waldroup Photography

In December I went to a business conference hosted by Katelyn James in Richmond, Virginia at the Train Station.

Katelyn touched on giving up things in our business and why it is important and I couldn’t think of what more there was to give up.  I have an accountant, my husband is starting to do the financial budgeting, I have someone to manage my Pinterest, I have an editor - what more is there?

I fully and wholeheartedly believe God has blessed me with everything in this business and will scream from the mountaintops that this is His business and I pray I have blessed people in return, but then I got to thinking …

On my way home I was convicted. Is this really His business like I proclaim? How am I making it His business? This is, without a doubt, where I need to give my control up. I give all the Glory to God and He wholeheartedly deserves it but I’m not actively giving it to Him. This is everything I needed and more.
I need to give my control to God.

After leaving something so powerful, with the conviction I felt after, I just love worshipping, specifically in the car and the song “Wont Stop Now” by Elevation Worship came on and WOAH if this didn't solidify everything that He placed on my heart on the way home.

"And now I'm ready
For whatever You wanna do
Your presence is an open door
We want You, Lord
Like never before
Your presence is an open door
So come now, Lord
Like never before"

Again - wow. It gives me chills all over again.

Sweet heavens! My mind is blown, in the best way possible!

Needless to say, going into 2020 I feel weirdly refreshed with a new mindset and ready to take on a new year. And I say weirdly, because I have never really cared about a new year, I’ve actually always been pretty annoyed by everyone being so gung-ho about it. Haha, true story!

I have done personal “words” for the years but have never made one for my business. But because this year I am giving my business to God in such a different way that I am so excited about, my word for the business is going to be prosper. I am trusting that my goals and dreams are fully capable through Christ, that through Him my business will prosper.

pros·per

verb

  1. succeed in material terms; be financially successful.

    "his business prospered"

    • flourish physically; grow strong and healthy.

"areas where gray squirrels cannot prosper"

I kinda have had goals. I have never really pursued them though. This year I am excited to dig into some goals I have and even made action plans for me to actually pursue them!

  • I would love to serve 20 couples on their wedding day! I am over halfway to my goal, only taking on 6 more weddings!

  • I launched a newsletter and would love to grow my newsletter to 500. It is a large goal but I know it can be done!

  • I will be doing 3 month planning, monthly planning and weekly planning. I am doing this in hopes of having more routine and intentional office time and business hours.

  • Albums launched this month so I would really love to provide at least 3-5 couples with this type of heirloom! (until the end of February there is an album sale going on for past, present and future (already booked) couples; email me to claim yours!!)

  • Serve more! You may have seen where I blogged the best changes we made in 2019, so I would love to pursue this more! Just serve as many as I can in the best way possible. This is not only in business but personally also. I strive to be a resource to others and to serve people well, so the more I can do this, the happier I am!! 😍

In 2019, I personally chose the word intentional but coming into 2020 I don’t feel like I accomplished it so 2020 is a year of intentional 2.0.

What does this look like for me?

  • Digging more into my Bible time each day. I LOVE starting my day this way. It is so refreshing and such a great kickstart to the day.

  • I want to be intentional in my marriage, family and friendships. At the end of 2019, there was a lot of loss. It was a smack in the face that no one is promised tomorrow so as cheesy as it sounds, I want to soak up each day for what it is.

  • Less time on social media!

  • Document more. I loved growing up with tons of photo albums to look through to see and hear the stories of my grandparents and parents childhood and love stories and then seeing pictures from our childhood. And I want that for us and our future kids and grandkids! We are hoping to purchase a point and shoot camera so we can have quality images without having to lug my bulky DSLR camera around and since we refuse to pay the price for a new iPhone when ours work fine, other than the cameras not being the greatest. All we will have to do is plug in the SD card and order the prints!

  • We obviously have financial goals and are looking forward to what we will accomplish!
